Youth Handbell Choir Performs Fum, Fum, Fum

During the December 19 Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols the DUMC Youth Handbell Choirs performed Fum, Fum, Fum.

“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” I Timothy 4:12

In July, 24 of our youth and 10 chaperones travelled to the Knoxville/Pigeon Forge area for choir tour. I watched our youth demonstrate Paul’s admonition to Timothy as they sang Catholic mass on Saturday night, two Episcopal service on Sunday morning, an evening concert at the Catholic Cathedral, and an evening prayer service at a local campground. In each service, our youth were respectful and passionate leaders of worship. However, I saw their love for each other and God on display in more than just services. Our contact at the hotel in Knoxville called me to tell me the entire staff had been discussing how respectful our youth choir had been in our stay for just one night. This became a refrain as our youth invited campers to worship, floated down a river on an innertube, or sang at a pancake restaurant. Those of us in church leadership sometimes fret over how youth will engage in the life of the church. I am so proud of how our youth interacted with strangers and made new friends. They represented Christ and our church well. I am also appreciative that Davidson UMC supports this vital ministry of youth music.
