Contact: Maryline Roux

Mission: To provide assistance to a village in Ivory Coast.

After years of supporting the village of Vieux Badien – the place where our very own Maryline Roux’s family lives to this day – five DUMC members travelled there in October of 2010.   We met the people, heard their stories, and walked with Maryline as the village welcomed her back!   Our main focus is on healthcare for the village.  The clinic stays busy as a birthing center and has precious little medical equipment – not even the basics for OB/GYN or general medical care.  In 2011, DUMC will send basic medical instruments to the village.   If you wish to support these efforts, make your check payable to DUMC and memo it for "Ivory Coast Mission."

Mission: An ecumenical mission effort in which children from Afghanistan are selected based on need to come to our area, stay with host families and receive the medical, dental and optical care that they need.

Service: The primary purpose of LNCR is to serve sick children from Afghanistan. Secondarily, but just as important, is the cultural understanding and human connections that grow from this experience as bridges are built across cultures and across Muslim-Christian differences.

Volunteer Needs:
Volunteers can offer much-needed support to our program and host families by:
• Providing financial assistance with travel, visas, insurance and other miscellaneous expenses
• Donating winter clothing (in excellent condition), new underwear, and large, well-used suitcases with wheels
• Supplying welcome bags of toiletries, photo albums and other gifts
• Collecting items for humanitarian aid, such as over-the-counter medical supplies, toothbrushes, etc.
• Organizing recreational outings
• Soliciting donations of tickets, coupons, etc. from local businesses
• Helping with thank you notes for donors
Individuals interested in a higher level of involvement are encouraged to consider hosting a child or starting a branch of Solace for the Children in their town.
