Women's Fellowship Groups

Christian Women's Outdoor Trek Group

This is a community of women aged 50+ who want to recharge their lives and reconnect to their love of the outdoors in the company of other women through a variety of activities.  We honor a pace that is within the constraints of our physical being.  Single, married, whatever your status, find enjoyment in the company of other women who still enjoy the great outdoors!  Contact Nancy Young (704-987-9867) for more information.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN (UMW)

UMW is a national organization with nearly one million members and has long been a tradition of the Methodist church, making significant contributions in leadership, teaching, service and missions over its 135 year history.   Members raise approximately $20 million a year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world!  United Methodist Women is sponsored through the Women's Division of the United Methodist Church. To read more about the church's women's division and national and global happenings, visit us here.

Our Mission

“To build a supportive community among women; to be an advocate for the oppressed and dispossessed with special attention to the needs of women and children; and to engage in activities that foster growth in the Christian faith, mission education, and Christian social involvement throughout the organization."

What is the purpose of the UMW?

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Who is a member of UMW?

As part of the body of Christ at DUMC, we are all United Methodist Women! United Methodist Women celebrates an inclusive membership and welcomes all women who want to become members. Being a member of DUMC is not required.

Why become a member?

We are a community of women who nurture and encourage one another in our spiritual growth and personal leadership.  Being part of United Methodist Women at DUMC, we learn about and support our church’s national and global missions and social initiatives. On a local level, we provide for many non-profit agencies through service and monetary donations.

Joining A Circle

Because the membership at Davidson United Methodist Church is large and diverse, we are organized in sub-groups, called Circles. There are six Circles and each meets at different times of the month and focuses on programs and missions that are of unique interest to its members. We get together social and mission programs.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in our Circles. There is no better place for fellowship, support and service!  Just contact the Circle chair to verify the meeting time and place.  However, membership in United Methodist Women does not require Circle involvement.  Membership can be expressed in several ways such as intercessory prayer, undesignated giving to support global mission, participation in the reading program, and participation in various events.

If you would like to become involved in United Methodist Women in any way, contact Carolyn Johnson (704-660-9045).

The United Methodist Women Reading Program

The United Methodist Women's Reading Program is open to participation by anyone, male or female. It encourages people to read a certain number of books a year from a list put together by a committee of United Methodist Women.

To learn more about this program, click here or contact DUMC Librarian, Gail Spach. Participate in the online Reading Program Circle on Facebook.
