Our Mission
To promote emotional and spiritual wholeness through counseling, education, and consultation to those who are seeking to enhance their relations with self, with others, and with God.
You may ask yourself, “How does pastoral counseling fit in with DUMC’s overall ministry of care?”
Pastoral Counseling is intended as the ministry of the church that steps in when other ministries have gone as far as they are able to go – the ministry of pastoral counseling offers something in addition to other avenues of care. This ministry provides counseling by trained and licensed professionals that is completely confidential. Whether provided by an ordained minister or a lay minister, you can trust these individuals to help you through the current challenges with which you are dealing. They will work with you to set suitable goals and to develop a plan for your emotional and relational growth. When appropriate, and only with your permission, they will collaborate with others in your care. And most importantly, they will work with you to weave together the spiritual threads of your journey that can be counted on throughout your process of healing. Faith-based counseling with professionals you can trust aims to put you back on the path of a life of abundance, meaning, and hope.

Counseling You Can Trust. Sometimes the most difficult thing is to ask someone for help. When we do, we want to talk to a trained and trustworthy person, someone who will listen with warmth and sensitivity and relate to us as people. Many wish to speak with someone who is sensitive to how issues of faith and spirituality weave through the emotional and relational healing we seek. Counseling is not a one-size-fits-all service. Your counselor will work with you to determine the type of counseling that best fits your needs. Sometimes, after just a few sessions, you will feel better equipped to cope with or solve an issue. Other times, you and your counselor may decide that more in-depth therapy will be the best approach to meeting your needs.

Client Scholarship Fund
Financial limitations should not prevent individuals from obtaining the help they need. The Counseling Center at DUMC wishes for every client to be able to obtain counseling, regardless of their ability to pay. In addition to the sliding fee scale, the Client Scholarship Fund has been established to offset the cost of counseling for individuals and families who would not otherwise be able to afford services.
The Client Scholarship Fund is made possible by donations from churches, organizations, individuals, and families. Donations to the Client Scholarship Fund may be sent to:
