Sunday Mornings

DUMC provides a Sunday morning program that addresses the needs of middle and senior high students. Our youth (Grades 6-8) meet on campus and our high school groups (Grades 9-12) meet at the Molly McKay House, across the street from the church.  Click here for a Fall 2012 Sunday Morning Class Schedule

Sixth-graders use "Live B.I.G.," the United Methodist curriculum for young adolescents who want to know how the Bible applies to their everyday lives.

Seventh and eighth-graders dig into the Bible and discover what it means to live as a Christian in school, at home, and in other settings.

Youth in Grades 9-12 discuss the Bible and issues in everyday life.  We will be using a seminar model this year, which will allow youth to choose between a couple of topics each week.

Sunday Nights

Youth Group (Grades 7-12) - a gathering place for worship, teaching, discussion, and games.  Each week has a new, age-relevant theme that helps teenagers grapple with issues of faith, life, and community.

Jr. High Youth (Grades 7-8) meets from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
Youth Dinners ($2.00) are from 6:15 - 7:00 p.m. in the Molly McKay Youth House.
Sr. High Youth (Grades 9-12) meets from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Wednesday Nights

Junior High JAM (Grades 6-8) - designed to meet the needs of youth in this age group through community-building games, discussion, movie clips, and Bible study in a high-energy, experiential setting.  We meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Molly McKay Youth House (bring $3.00 for pizza).

Senior High Girls Group - ever want to talk with just the girls?  Here's your chance!  You'll talk about what it means to be a woman of God in today's world - the struggles and the fun.  The  Girls Group meets Wednesdays from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Molly McKay Youth House (bring $3.00 for pizza).

Senior High Guys Group - a place for guys to be guys.  Some weeks, we dig deep into topics that matter to our lives.  Other weeks, we simply relax and engage in a manly activity as we take a break from the busy week.  The Guys Group meets Wednesdays from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Molly McKay Youth House (bring $3.00 for pizza).

Youth Retreats

During the year, we offer a variety of retreats and overnights for youth in Grades 7-12.  These trips are a wonderful way to get away from the world, connect with other DUMC youth, and find a place where you can experience God in new and meaningful ways.  Visit the DUMC youth website for a full list of upcoming trips.

Confirmation for Eighth Graders

What a special time the eighth grade year is for intentional spiritual growth!  For confirmation, youth come together and tackle the basic and more difficult questions of faith. For many it is not the beginning, thanks to nurturing parents; and for all, it is not the end of the faith development process. It is a landmark along the path of Christianity, and specifically, United Methodism.  Confirmation programs are led by DUMC clergy and staff, and parent volunteers.

In addition to other confirmation activities, youth participate in a weekend-long "Faith History" retreat that includes worship visits to a Jewish temple, Catholic mass, and an emergent/contemporary church.  At the end of the classes, youth are given the opportunity to join the DUMC community of faith. The decisions include “Yes, I am ready to join”; “No, I am not ready”, or “I need to talk with someone before I make my decision.”

Special classes can be scheduled upon request for high school students who may have missed their confirmation opportunity.

Confirmation is held annually in the fall.  Contact Kristen Twitchell (704-892-8277) for more information.
